Understanding energy in St. Clairesville

Liz Meredith teaches 8th grade science at St. Clairesville Middle School. She’s working her way through the OOGEEP curriculum with her intervention class, helping students see what goes into meeting and sustaining our energy needs, and possibly interesting them in a future career. Meredith said the students enjoy the hands-on aspects of the labs and the fact that this topic relates to their world.

The OOGEEP teacher workshop helped Meredith understand the STEM behind the oil and natural gas industry and how to help students see it and become excited about learning. She said she’d “absolutely” recommend the workshop to other educators. “It adds the real-world perspective that is so important to teaching and gives kids an important look into possible career options,” Meredith said.
