Observing earth's crust
Everyone who attends an Ohio Oil and Gas geology workshop receives a set of rocks and minerals, along with other supplies, for classroom use. Terri Reynolds at River Elementary School used these samples in a unit focusing on Space.
As part of a study of the Earth's crust, students circulated through six stations where they were able to explore the crust's surface and some of its components. At two stations, they chose one of the mineral samples and described it. Reynolds says, "It was absolutely wonderful to see how the students observed the samples. I was so glad to have such a variety of samples to share with them!"
After recording their observations, the students prepared a report explaining their findings.
