Elementary-level teaching provides new application of workshop lessons, materials
Tammy Thomson teaches first grade in Campbell, Ohio. She attended an OOGEEP teacher workshop and said, “I would definitely recommend this workshop to fellow educators. There was so much information I did not know about the industry. It gave me knowledge that will make me a better teacher.”
Thomson had been teaching science in upper grades, and said that switching to first grade provides an interesting opportunity to incorporate the valuable workshop materials. “So far, we’ve studied living and nonliving things and states of matter. Later we will investigate how things move in a variety of ways. I plan to implement activities from the workshop such as the one that we did to move an object from point A to point B. We’ll make a maze and time how long it take to move a ping pong ball through it. Many of the resources in our supply kit will be used to create this maze as they are the only science materials I have!”
