Considering the benchmarks/standards that you are required to teach what science concept or content will you plan to teach:

Standard #4 Science and Technology: Students recognize that science and technology are interconnected and that using technology involves assessment of the benefits, risks and costs. Students should build scientific and technological knowledge, as well as the skill required to design and construct devices. In addition, they should develop the processes to solve problems and understand that problems may be solved in several ways.
Benchmark: A. Describe how technology affects human life.
  • Explain how technology from different areas (e.g., transportation, communication, nutrition, healthcare, agriculture, entertainment and manufacturing) has improved human lives. [4A1]
  • Investigate how technology and inventions change to meet peoples’ needs and wants. [4A2]

[edit] Ways to incorporate different teaching methods

  • Lecture
Explain the background of the Roadmap of Natural Gas and Oil found on the wiki.
  • Reading
Students would read from the Smartboard the OOGEEP website explanation of deeper understanding of each of the 6 sections of the Roadmap of Natural Gas and Oil.
  • Audio-visual
Use of the WIKKI on OOGEEP.ORG and have students navigate the learning links to have a better comprehension of the Roadmap of Natural Gas and Oil.
  • Demonstration
Students will be in small groups. These small groups will be responsible for demonstrating one experiment to the class from each section of the mapping. 1.Formation 2.Migration and Trapping 3. Exploring 4.Drilling and Production 5. Refining 6. Products made from Natural Gas and Oil.
  • Discussion Group
Students will come back together and discuss what they have learned from the demonstration.
  • Teach Others/Immediate Use of Learning
Groups have done demonstrations will now be responsible for teaching the rest of the class.
  • Practice by Doing
All students will divide into groups and each group will do the same experiment.
  • Use of Technology
One person in each group will be responsible to use a flip camera and present it to the class.
  • Use of 21st Century Skills
The use Smart board, flip camera, and computer will engage them to discover their own learning and allow them to share with other students, staff and parents. This would provided excellent child led conference.

[edit] Ways to incorporate graphic organizers

Students would create a KWL chart. A flip chart for vocabulary. Pictures and diagrams of the science project. Incorporate writing with the use of the KWL and flip chart information to show what they have learned.

[edit] Ways to use field trips or make real-life industry connections

Invite Sara Tipka from Tipka Oil and explain the Gas and Oil industry. Field trip to Canton, Ohio Refinery.
